What is electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal approved by the FDA. Treatment consists of inserting a small, single-use, sterile probe into the hair follicle and applying energy to destroy the cells that allow hair to grow. This destruction of the growth cells impairs their ability to produce another hair. A pair of forceps are then used to glide the treated hair out of the follicle.
Does it hurt?
For most people, electrolysis is very tolerable, but individual tolerances vary. Some people say it feels like a mild tingling, a pinch, or quick snap. Some areas of the body are much less sensitive than others and clients may find that they have different tolerance levels based on the area being treated. Many clients will listen to music, rest their eyes, or even fall asleep during their appointment.
If clients find that they are uncomfortable during treatment, we sell a topical lidocaine gel that can be purchased at your consultation or any appointment. This gel should only be used prior to your electrolysis appointment and should be applied to the treatment area 30 minutes before your appointment for maximum effect.

Is electrolysis really permanent?
Electrolysis provides true permanent hair removal. It has been the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal since 2007. Permanency is achieved by treating each hair with a current of energy to destroy the growth cells. Follow your electrologist's recommended treatment schedule for best results!
The length of treatment can vary from person to person and depends on factors such as hair density, the hair growth cycle, hormones, methods of temporary hair removal, a client's skin sensitivity, and a client's consistency to coming in for treatment. Individual appointment times can range from 15 minutes to over an hour. Schedule a consultation to learn which appointment length will be best for your needs.
Permanent results does not mean immediate results; a series of treatments is required to achieve permanent results. Permanently destroying the hair's growth can only occur when the hair is visible. As hairs grow in different cycles and can go dormant at times, it is important to maintain a steady treatment schedule to ensure all hairs are treated as they emerge through the skin to permanently stop their growth. Regular visits based on your electrologist's recommendations should be followed to achieve the best results. Total treatment length can take 12 months or possibly longer for all of the hair in a specific area to be treated.
When first beginning treatment, appointments will typically be more frequent, with weekly appointments being most effective. As your hairs are treated, appointments become less frequent until all of the hairs are permanently gone.

What side effects might I have after treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, some redness and/or slight swelling may be present as well as some tenderness in the treated area. This typically lasts a couple of hours. Sometimes, caffeine and excess stress can contribute to additional skin irritation. By following the aftercare instructions your electrologist will give to you, these symptoms can be reduced.
Why should I choose electrolysis over other hair removal methods?
Electrolysis is 100% permanent hair removal. Temporary methods such as waxing, plucking, depilatories, shaving, and others require frequent and time-consuming maintenance. The cost of these temporary methods can add up to more than the temporary cost of electrolysis treatments. Once you are done with your electrolysis regimen, you will have permanent, no maintenance results.
Depilatories, bleaching, and shaving may irritate the skin. Waxing, plucking, and threading can cause hair follicles to become distorted, as shown in the picture, which may lead to ingrown hairs. These methods can also increase the blood flow to the hair, thereby causing the hair to strengthen.

On the day of your appointment, its important to make sure your hair is long enough to be grasped by a pair of tweezers (usually about 2mm in length). It is also important to stop all tweezing, waxing, and depilatories before starting treatment and throughout the entire duration of your treatment regimen.
