Men
Men often receive electrolysis treatment to minimize the time commitment and hassle of shaving. Some men naturally have excess body hair and are looking to decrease the overall density in an area or eliminate it completely. Shaving can also lead to ingrown hairs; with time, electrolysis can help eliminate this problem. Common areas treated include the outer ear, outer nose, in-between the eyebrows, the cheeks, neck, back and chest areas. This is not an all-inclusive list; if desired, treatment can be performed on other areas of the body as well.
Before Treatment Care
Length of Hair:
-
Long enough to be grasped by tweezers
-
About 2mm in length (usually about 3-5 days worth of growth)
-

Maintenance:
-
Stop all waxing, tweezing, or any other method to manually remove the hair
-
These methods can increase blood flow to the follicle and therefore cause the hair to become stronger and will prolong the overall length of your electrolysis journey if you continue to do them in between your appointments
-
-
Shaving or trimming the hair with scissors are acceptable methods of maintaining the hair in between treatments
Hydration:
-
Drink plenty of water a few days before as well as the day of your treatment
-
Staying hydrated allows for better electrolysis treatment and may even make treatment more comfortable
-
This is because electrolysis works with the water in your skin to destroy the hair growth cells
-

Things to avoid prior to your appointment:
-
Avoid caffeine and alcohol
-
These can dehydrate the skin and make the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation
-
-
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning
-
If skin is sun burned in the treatment area, your appointment will need to be rescheduled
-
Please note that if you are on your menstrual cycle, you may find your skin to be more sensitive during treatment. This does not mean you have to reschedule! We sell a lidocaine gel that can be used prior to any appointment if you find treatment to be uncomfortable.
After Treatment Care
The follicles in the treated area are open and susceptible to bacteria. It is very important to keep the area clean. Please refrain from touching, rubbing, scratching, or squeezing the treated area for 24 hours.

Witch hazel and aloe work well as after care products to soothe the skin. An ice pack with a clean paper towel/cloth covering can be applied to the treated area for a short time to help with any swelling.

Avoid exposure to the sun for 48 hours.

Avoid baths, long showers, hot/humid air, sweating or anything which may irritate the skin for 24 hours.

Avoid alcohol or oil-based skin products on the treated area for 48 hours.

Additional written aftercare instructions will be given to each client at the end of their appointment. These may include more in depth information about caring for your skin after treatment.
